James E. Newby,II M.D., CDE
Received his undergraduate degree from Hampton Institute, class of 1978. Completed medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1981, then completed his residency at Howard University Hospital in 1984. Board certified in Family Practice in 1984, then Re-certified 2011 thru 2021. He added to his credentials by becoming a certified diabetic educator in Dec 2013. He has co-authored a book entitled I Have Diabetes. Now What? Dr. Newby is currently co-chair of the Sentara Quality Care Network in the Southside region of Virginia.has been the former president of the Medical Staff of Norfolk Community Hospital, former president of the Norfolk Medical Society and the former Chairman of the Department of Medicine of Norfolk Community Hospital.

Olivia M.J. Newby, DNP, FNP-BC, CDE
Dr. Newby received her undergraduate degree from Howard University's School of Nursing in 1982. Obtained her Masters of Science of Nursing with a certificate to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Hampton University in 1996. Became board certified as a Nurse Practitioner in 1997. In 2011 she became a Certified Diabetes Educator to further aid her patients. As of May 2014, she received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Old Dominion University. Her research work entitled " Culturally Tailored Group Medical Appointments for Diabetic Black Americans" was published in The Journal for Nurse Practitioners in its May 2016 edition. She has co-authored a book entitled I Have Diabetes. Now What? Dr. Newby is currently vice-president of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners. She is adjunct faculty at Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University.

Marcia N. Newby-Goodman, M.D., CAQSM
Dr. Newby-Goodman received her undergraduate degree from University of Georgia in 2010. While at the University of Georgia, she was on the gymnastics team at which time they won 3 NCAA National Championships and 1 SEC (Southeast Conference) Championship. She then attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and graduated co-valedictorian in 2015. Family Medicine Residency was completed in Daytona Beach, FL at Halifax Family Medicine residency in 2018. She then completed her sports medicine fellowship at the University of North Carolina in 2019. Dr. Newby-Goodman has an interest in female athletes but looks forward to taking care of athletes and active people of all ages.

Dr. Wood received her undergraduate degree from Norfolk State University School of Nursing in 2006. She obtained her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Kentucky State University in Dec 2017. She is a certified health coach. She is also certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support. She joined our practice in Jan 2018.

Zakia Woods McManus, PharD
Dr. Zakia Woods McManus is a clinical pharmacist who was educated at Hampton University School of Pharmacy and graduated in 2007. She handles our chronic care management and home remote patient monitoring services. She is a diabetes educator who helps with insulin delivery teaching, general diabetes education and assists with patient management. She also manages our in-house vaccines and offers prescription compliance packaging which improves medication adherence and reduces dosing errors.

Dr. Dr. Olivia M.J. Newby has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for 25 and practices at Primary Care Specialist in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2012, Dr. Newby Co-Founded and became President of The Healthy Living Center Foundation, a (501) 3c nonprofit organization. Dr. Newby holds a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Howard University, a Master's degree in Nursing from Hampton University, a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Old Dominion University. Additionally, she is Nationally Certified as a Diabetes Educator and Diabetes Lifestyle Coach. Dr. Newby has authored the book “Now What? I Have Diabetes”, and her study entitled “Culturally Tailored Group Medical Appointments for Diabetic Black Americans” was published in The Journal for Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Newby has extensive experience in primary care, entrepreneurship, culinary medicine, research, and diabetes education. Dr. Newby currently serves as adjunct faculty in the Nursing Graduate College at Old Dominion University in Norfolk Virginia, and is the Vice President/President Elect of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners. Recent accomplishments include becoming a 2020-2021 Fellow of the Duke Johnson & Johnson Nursing Leadership Program, a 2020 inductee of Fellows American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and recipient of the 2020 President’s Award from Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, and Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists. Currently Dr. Newby serves as a Board member for the American Heart Association of Hampton Roads. Dr. Newby professional interests include diabetes management and education, and dietary health prevention for at-risk populations.
